Alabama State University has reached an agreement with the Alabama Educational Television Commission to purchase Montgomery’s Alabama Public Television facility for $2.3 million. When acquired, the full-scale broadcast facility will provide students in the university’s Center for Applied Communications Media a hub for production and airing of student journalism projects.
School officials said the site already is outfitted with equipment, including master control and production equipment, and office equipment will remain behind in the attached tower for the school’s use. Much more needs to be purchased, including cameras and control equipment, but Harris said the amount of technology that’s already in the building made the purchase more attractive to the school.
“This facility, with the available equipment, is far more cost-effective than starting a new place,” (Alabama State President William) Harris said.
