Alabama State Remembers Civil Rights Icon Thelma McWilliams Glass

Written by , Posted in Alabama, Alabama State University, Alumni, Faculty

Thelma McWilliams Glass, an iconic planner of the Montgomery bus boycott in 1955, died last week at the age of 96. Glass was a graduate of Alabama State University, where she later worked as a professor of geography. The university held memorial services in her honor this week in the Dunn-Oliver Acadome.

“I am taken by the way she was committed to this University.  She was so committed that the last time I saw her was (on July 20) at the President’s Gala here at the Acadome because she thought that was where she could contribute,” (ASU President William) Harris said.  “We are proud of the life, dedication and contribution of Thelma M. Glass.”
