Bethune-Cookman Student Killed, Others Injured in Car Crash

A one-car crash this morning in Daytona Beach left one Bethune-Cookman student dead and four others injured.

Marcus Thomas, a Birmingham, AL native and front seat passenger in the vehicle, died after hitting his head on the windshield when the car veered off of the road while driving southbound on Martin Luther King Boulevard around 8:30 this morning. Thomas was not wearing a seat belt, according to Dayton Beach Police.

The driver, Carl Beasley, is believed to have fallen asleep at the wheel. He, along with Erick V, Godbee, 18, of Daytona Beach, Matthew J. Lezala, 22, of Daytona Beach, and Johnus S. Greenlee, 19, of Chicago, were treated at a nearby medical facility for injuries.
