Clark Atlanta Wins SIAC Women’s Basketball Championship

“They’ve been talking about it for a long time,” Moore said.  “They’ve been talking about the possibilities of winning a championship.  It’s always one of our three goals: academic goals, championships, and community service off the floor.  But, I think that we really put it all together this year.  The team was mature.  I knew it would be tough, and we went through hard knocks throughout the season.  But, in the way that we played some of our non-conference games, I knew that we had a good team.  There was never a doubt.  Every time we walked off the floor, we earned a little bit more respect.”

Former Clark Student, Civil Rights Figure James Hood Dies

James Hood, one of two African-Americans who spurred the famous 1963 ‘stand in the schoolhouse door’ desegregation of the University of Alabama, died last week in Alabama. He was 70 years old.

Along with Vivian Malone, Hood entered the school in June of 1963. He enrolled for jut two months as an undergraduate, facing consistent threats and an ailing father.

Hood transferred to Alabama from then-Clark College (now Clark Atlanta University), and would return to Alabama for his doctorate in 1997.

Clark Atlanta Names Kevin Weston New Head Football Coach

Clark Atlanta University today named Kevin Weston as its new head football coach. Weston comes to Atlanta from Tusculum College in Tennessee, where he served as a position coach and defensive coordinator over his eight years at the school.

“In Weston,” CAU President Carlton E. Brown said, “we have identified an individual who knows the game inside and out, has proven his ability to build and grow successful teams, promote values education and insist  upon personal and character development in his players.  All of these qualities align not only with the mission of Clark Atlanta, but create the kind of foundation necessary to ensure a focused, aggressive turn-around in our football program.”

Weston is a Tusculum graduate, and begins his tenure at CAU effective today.
