Bethune-Cookman Baseball Sweeps Harvard, Reaches .500 on the Year

Written by , Posted in Bethune-Cookman University, Florida, Headlines, MEAC Baseball, Sports

The Bethune-Cookman Wildcats secured their first baseball sweep of the year, defeating Harvard in a three-game homestand that culminated with a 6-4 win yesterday evening in Daytona Beach. The series shutout pushes the Wildcats to 9-9 on the season.

In the eighth, Harvard collected its first lead of the game, taking advantage of a force-out error, with the runner taking home before the final out was notched on the play. That lead was short lived.

In the bottom half, Brandon Turner got the Wildcats going the right direction with a leadoff single through the right side, setting the stage for Anthony Stokes to knot up the score with an RBI single to shallow left field. Facing a 2-2 count, with two outs, and bases loaded, Pizarro did it again for the Wildcats. The freshman converted third baseman fired a two-RBI single right up the middle to push B-CU to a 6-4 lead.

Three outs away from the sweep, Beverlin went to junior reliever Jordan Dailey to shut the door, who wrapped up the win with a groundout, strikeout, and fly out, giving B-CU its first series sweep of 2012.
