Alabama State University today announced Dr. Joseph H. Silver as the school’s next president. Dr. Silver currently serves as the provost and vice-president of academic affairs at Clark Atlanta University, and is the former vice president of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
Silver succeeds William H. Harris, who served from 1994 until 2000, and then again from 2008 until currently.
Search committee chairman Trustee Marvin Wiggins says Silver is poised to bring the university to the next level.
WVAS-FM reports the search for a new president started with 190 candidates and took more than a year. The field was narrowed to five and the board selected Silver on Friday. (WTVM)[/mpoverlay]
