Delaware State Nears Fundraising Record for Second Straight Year

Written by , Posted in Delaware, Delaware State University, Funding

The News Journal recently reported that Delaware State University is on the verge of raising $2.7 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, a school record that will surpass last year’s record of $2.5 million.

The silver lining in alumni giving, (DSU President Harry) Williams said, is the number of alumni contributing. Even though it didn’t immediately lead to a big dollar increase, 575 alumni gave to DSU this year, up from 494 in 2010-11.

José F. Echeverri, a trustee and alumnus, said he believes more alumni have started to get the message that the alma mater needs their involvement. Eventually, the extra dollars will come. “I think there’s tremendous progress there,” he said. “There’s also a lot of room to grow.”
