Eddie Robinson Jr. Dies
Eddie Robinson Jr., the son of Grambling State University football coach Eddie Robinson Sr., died last night at the Baylor University Medical Center following complications from heart surgery. He was 70.
In a statement, the Robinson family called ‘Coach Jr.’ a caring person who loved Grambling and committed his life to its progress.
“Eddie, who shared his father Eddie Robinson Sr.’s life-long love for football and the student-athletes who fondly refer to him as ‘Coach Jr.,’ was a cherished husband to his late wife Gloria, our son, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend to many. Eddie cared for his family unfailingly and without complaint and continued to contribute his time and skills to the Grambling State University football program through last season.”
Grambling President Frank Pogue urged comfort for the Robinson family.
“It was with deep sorrow that I received word of Eddie Jr.’s passing this evening,” GSU president Frank G. Pogue said in an official statement. “It was only a few days ago that he was home, we talked, and he was making visits again. We ask that everyone support the Robinson family in their time of grief.”
School officials say funeral arrangements are forthcoming.
