Fayetteville State University rushed for two fourth-quarter touchdowns to beat Virginia Union 28-17 in the Broncos’ home opener yesterday afternoon. It was the first win of the year for FSU, who scored the closing and go-ahead scores in a six-minute span of the final quarter.
“It’s a good feeling to get the first win of the season in the books,” said head coach Kenny Phillips. “Overall we did a good job of getting off the field on third down. It was a great team win for us tonight in all aspects of the game. The biggest difference tonight was overcoming the mistakes we made in the football game and be able to get a win.”
The Broncos controlled the time of possession through the fourth quarter, and allowed VUU to have the ball on offense for just over two minutes in the quarter.
