Former North Carolina Central First Lady Vivian Chambers Dies

Vivian Chambers, wife of North Carolina Central University Chancellor Emeritus Julius Chambers, has died at the age of 79.
During the time her husband led the school, from 1993 to 2001, Mrs. Chambers became involved with America Reads, a literacy program designed to assist students in grades K-3.
Under her leadership the Vivian G. Chambers Walk-A-Thon for Community Service was established. Alumni, students, faculty, staff and administrators participated in the annual event during NCCU’s homecoming.
