Fort Valley State Volunteers ‘Wash Away Hunger’ with Community Fundraiser

Written by , Posted in Community, Fort Valley State University, Georgia, Students

Students from Fort Valley State University recently joined local high school students and community members in a special car wash fundraiser. The event raised money to support families in Warner Robins with holiday meals at Thanksgiving and Christmas.

FVSU’s assistant professor of social work, Dr. Sonja Shavers, who currently serves on the Feed the City board of directors, worked with students at the fundraiser.

“When Dr. Shavers said she needed help for this car wash fundraiser, I wanted to show how much I appreciate her by volunteering,” said Jones, an FVSU senior majoring in social work. “She’s a licensed social worker and a wonderful, wonderful lady. She’s always helping students and taking the time to help others.” The 26-year-old Bronx, N.Y. native said he, and other students, wanted to deliver great customer service during the car wash charity event.

According to Shavers, the organization fed more than 8,500 Middle Georgians during last year’s holiday season.
