Francena McCorory Second Hampton Alumna Named to US Olympic Track Team

Hampton University alumna Francena McCorory joined fellow Lady Pirate Kellie Wells today with an earned a spot on the 2012 US Olympic Team. McCorory placed third in the 400-meters with a time of 50.43.
Both McCorory and Wells were all-Americans while at Hampton; a unique feat in the black college sports world given Norfolk State’s dominance in the MEAC over the last decade, and Saint Augustine’s place in track and field over the last 20 years.
But Hampton can claim two Olympians, and with this rare feat, much of the positive coverage and patriotic support that comes with it. Here’s hoping that domestic coverage of the games gives a healthy profile of HU and two of its finest athletes.
