Grambling, Doug Williams Agree to Contract Terms, Await Board Approval

Written by , Posted in Grambling State University, Louisiana, Sports

The ongoing saga between Doug Williams and Grambling State University appears near an end, as the two sides have reached an agreement on a contract. Neither Williams or GSU would reveal details, but the contract still awaits approval from the University of Louisiana Board of Supervisors next Monday.

Williams sued Grambling in April after discovering that a contract he originally signed with the university in Feb. 2011 was never approved by the UL Board.

Grambling is a nationally-recognized football brand and the reigning champion of the SWAC. It comprises one-half of one of the state’s biggest football rivalries. Williams, a native son and greatest living legend of Grambling football, is a capable ambassador for both Louisiana and Grambling.

Both GSU and Williams seem pretty important to Louisiana’s profile. How the UL board or the university dropped the ball on the first contract remains a mystery, but here’s hoping they get it right the second time up.
