Champions of the two historically Black college and university Division II basketball leagues will enter the NCAA national men’s and women’s tournaments this week.
Livingstone College, a week removed from winning its first CIAA men’s basketball championship, will face top-seeded East Stroudsburg in the Atlantic region, and SIAC men’s tournament champion Tuskegee University will face Florida Southern in the South region. Both will open as eighth seeds on Mar. 15.
In the women’s bracket, sixth-seeded CIAA champion Shaw University will face Gannon on March 14 in the Atlantic region and SIAC champion Benedict College will face Nova Southeastern as the South region fifth seed. The East Coast Conference champion University of the District of Columbia will play Stonehill, and matches Benedict as the highest seeded HBCU teams in the men’s and women’s brackets, as the Lady Firebirds will also open with a fifth seed.
Virginia State University and Albany State University’s women’s teams earned at-large bids.
