Is Isaiah Crowell Ready To Break Out in the SWAC?

Nick Birdsong of the Huntsville Times today profiles a two-week run of success for Alabama State tailback Isaiah Crowell. After a slow start to the season against stout defenses in Bethune-Cookman, Mississippi Valley State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff, the Georgia transfer has ran for 276 yards and two touchdowns in wins against Texas Southern and Alcorn State.
It seems as if Crowell and Alabama State’s coaching staff have finally gotten acclimated to each other, heading into their Week 7 matchup against SWAC East foe Jackson State. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery.
Barlow said the former five-star recruit, who was averaging 55.5 yards game through the Hornets (4-2, 4-1) first four contests against Bethune-Cookman, Mississippi Valley State, Grambling State and Arkansas-Pine Bluff, is easing back into the shape he was in when he was named SEC Freshman of the Year as the Bulldogs advanced to the conference title game last season.
Crowell leads the SWAC in rushing yards (491) and touchdowns (8). The Hornets’ remaining conference games in October are against division rivals Jackson State and undefeated Alabama A&M, two very different squads from defensive ability. ASU rounds out the SWAC regular season against Prairie View A&M and Southern, games which the Hornets could dominate on the ground, but must win to match the October must-wins against JSU and AAMU.
