Ivelaw Griffith Named Fort Valley State President

griffith_ivelawThe Georgia Board of Regents today announced Ivelaw Griffith as the next president of Fort Valley State University. In a release, members of the selection committee praised Dr. Griffith for his academic profile and potential to lead the FVSU community.

University System of Georgia (USG) Chancellor Hank Huckaby said, “The Board of Regents has made an outstanding selection for the next president of Fort Valley State University. Dr. Griffith is an accomplished scholar whose career and academic training will take this institution to a level of achievement and quality so critical in the global world of tomorrow. I and the other members of my staff are totally committed to supporting President Griffith as he leads the students, faculty and the extended Fort Valley Community into the future. I know all who are committed to assuring a successful future for the University will lend their support to President Griffith’s administration.”

Regarded as an expert on Caribbean security, Dr. Griffith has served in provost appointments at York College and Radford University. Dr. Griffith will assume the presidency on July 22.

Corrected copy…I find it sad and troubling that the most notable thing about the new president of Fort Valley State University is that he is “regarded as an expert on Caribbean security”. While I am sure he is a scholar, it seems to me that he is a poor match for Fort Valley State University (FVSU). Chancellor Hank Huckaby and the USG board’s decision in my opinion seems a bit odd if they want the school to grow and thrive.
