Jackson State Launches TV, Radio Broadcast Initiative to Combat Obesity

[mpoverlay]Jackson State University continues its fight to reduce obesity in Mississippi with a new media initiative debuting on Wednesday night. “An Ounce of Prevention” will air before a live studio audience on JSU-TV (Comcast) and WJSU-FM at 6:00 p.m.

During the maiden show, guest physicians and other health and fitness experts will explore Mississippi’s obesity epidemic. They will discuss the dietary and behavioral changes needed to lose weight, chronic diseases and their impact on impoverished areas and cultural demographics.

Getty Israel, a health educator, and Rachel Cowan, director of recreation services at JSU’s Walter Payton Recreation and Wellness Center, are the program’s co-hosts.[/mpoverlay]
