Multiple outlets are today reporting that Morgan State men’s basketball coach Todd Bozeman has been placed on paid administrative leave by the university, following an on-court incident with a player during last Saturday’s away game against South Carolina State University.

MSU athletic officials say that Bozeman will have no contact with the team during an internal investigation of the matter. The Bears won the game against SCSU 73-68, their third win of the year and MEAC season opener. Bozeman and the player, senior guard Larry Bastfield, called the incident “overblown” and “incidental contact.”

“These people are completely off the charts” regarding the accusations, Bozeman said in a telephone interview with The Sun. “I didn’t hit him in the face.”

Bastfield said he hadn’t thought much about the incident before two campus police officers asked him if he was interested in pressing charges against Bozeman before he boarded the team bus.

“They said they were told he hit me in the face,” Bastfield said, according to The Sun. “I told him that he accidently bumped me in the chest. It was something that happens in the heat of the game.” (ESPN)
