Morgan State Students Rally For Peace Following Campus Shooting

Written by , Posted in Maryland, Morgan State University, Students

Student groups at Morgan State University rallied for peace in two separate events on campus yesterday afternoon, one day after a non-student was shot in the torso on campus by another non-student in the university’s student center.

In the morning, students gathered to form a large prayer circle outside of the campus’ Murphy Fine Arts Center. In the afternoon, a rally and march was organized by the X Assembly, a non-profit organization formed by Morgan State students with a mission of uplifting and mobilizing Black communities.

“This is more than a campus, this is our home. We sing our alma mater, ‘Fair Morgan.’ This is what we believe in, so we have to all be safe,” said rally organizer, Chinedu Nwokeafor of the student organization, X Assembly.

The shooting suspect remains at large. Classes and normal business resumed on the campus yesterday.
