Tyron Laughinghouse (Sr./Greenville, N.C.) of Saint Augustine’s University was named to the 2012 Daktronics All-Super Region I football squad, which was announced Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012. The first and second teams were selected by the region’s sports information directors.
Laughinghouse was selected to the first team as a return specialist and the second team as a wide receiver. By virtue of his first team selection, he is eligible for Daktronics All-America honors as a return specialist. Laughinghouse is the only player named all-Super Region I at two positions, and he is one of eight CIAA players on either the first or second team.
Laughinghouse is the NCAA Division II leader in kick returns (40.1 yards per return) and kick return touchdowns (3). He leads the CIAA in scoring with 96 points and 16 touchdowns including 12 on receptions, three on kick returns and one on a punt return.
The all-region honor is the latest of several postseason awards for Laughinghouse. In early November, he was named CIAA special teams player of the year and chosen All-CIAA first team wide receiver and kick returner and second team punt returner. Laughinghouse was also a candidate for the Harlon Hill Trophy, which is given to the top football player in Division II.
Laughinghouse finished his career at Saint Augustine’s University as the all-time leading receiver with 139 receptions for 2,286 yards and 32 touchdowns. He has every major school receiving record. Laughinghouse is scheduled to graduate in December 2012 with a degree in sport management.
