SCSU Faces $4 Million Budget Deficit; Jobs, Div I NCAA Membership Among Suggested Cuts

Written by , Posted in Finance, Headlines, News, South Carolina State University

South Carolina State University Trustees were informed yesterday that the school faces a $4 million shortfall, with plans to reduce the projected deficit including job terminations and potentially a move from its NCAA Division I membership.

Officials attributed losses to enrollment dropping by 500 students, and a $750,000 revenue drop in the school’s dining hall.

The university will meet Monday to discuss budget management solutions. Among those to be considered by SCSU President George Cooper will be cuts to vacant positions, layoffs and salary reductions. Trustee Maurice Washington initially suggested the move from NCAA Division I affiliation.
