Search Underway for New Delaware State Athletic Director

Written by , Posted in Delaware, Delaware State University, Sports

Delaware State University yesterday announced that athletic director Derek Carter will now serve as an assistant to the university’s vice-president of finance. The move prompts the second search for a campus sports CEO in three years.

Eric D. Hart has been appointed interim athletic director until a permanent AD is announced. No timetable has been established for the installation of a new AD, but Delaware State officials say a committee will be assembled and due process will be given to the search in custom with other administrative hirings.

“It’s not something that happens overnight,” says Delaware State spokesperson Carlos Holmes. “It’s still very fresh, so we want to make sure that we conduct a quality search and hope to have an athletic director in place this year.”

Holmes says that Carter’s new position will tap into his financial expertise in athletics, which will be key in the school’s new facilities master plan. Conducted every ten years to assess and schedule for campus expansion, Carter will have planning and budgetary input into the sports portion of the school’s development.
