Sources: Paine to Announce Return of Football

An alumnus and former Paine College administrator has confirmed to the Augusta Chronicle that the college will tomorrow announce the return of its football program. The Lions last competed in the SIAC in football in 1962.
Roscoe Williams, a Paine alumnus and former assistant to the president, said the announcement would be about restarting a football team. He said the last year of the program was 1962.
“There’s nothing like having a football program,” Williams said. “My guess is it is to regenerate some school spirit.”
The announcement comes just months after Paine was placed on accreditation warning by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges for financial mismanagement.
