Written by , Posted in Headlines, Leadership, South Carolina State University

South Carolina State University today announced Dr. Valerie Fields as interim vice-president for student affairs. Dr. Fields’ appointment comes just days after the removal of several top university administrators, including the former VP  of student affairs, Charles Smith.

“Dr. Valerie Fields is and has been a tremendous asset to SC State University,” said President George E. Cooper in a release. “Dr. Fields has many years of experience in the realm of student affairs and we are more than happy that she will return to the university in this capacity. We expect that Dr. Fields will actively lead the student affairs area, and assist in growing our relationship with the community and in the recruitment of students, gradually increasing university enrollment.”

Dr. Fields has previously served SC State University as an associate professor of education and as the assistant vice president for student affairs, and currently serves as a member of the faculty preparing for reaffirmation of teacher education programs by NCATE. She holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Louisiana Tech University, a master’s degree and Educational Specialist degree in administration and supervision from the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Southern University and A&M College.
