Students in Southern University’s Navy Reserve Officers Training Corps will received advanced experience in naval warfare situations and tactics, thanks to a new $90,000 Mariner Skills Simulator donated from the US Navy and unveiled yesterday on campus.
According to the Advocate, the simulator will will give SU students three-dimensional views of navigational and battle situations, and is one of only six in the United States.
“It’s a very up-to-date piece of equipment. It’s encouraging to young men and women thinking about pursuing careers in the military to know they have this state-of-the art-tool available here for them,” Llorens said.
Southern ROTC officials say the simulator will allow cadets to have an “18 month” advantage on other incoming officers in familiarity with equipment and strategies.
