The Washington Post today reports that the January theft of a laptop belonging to a former Howard University Hospital contractor may jeopardize the private information of more than 34,000 of the facility’s patients. The hospital has informed the patients in writing of a possible breach of information, inclusive of Social Security numbers, and has offered identity theft coverage to all discovering any unauthorized activity with their information.
The HU Hospital said in a statement today that the computer is password protected and that no evidence of identity tampering has been discovered.
