SWAC, Commissioner Duer Sharp Agree to Three-Year Extension

The SWAC and Commissioner Duer Sharp have agreed to a three year extension. Sharp was named conference commissioner in 2007.
Under Sharp’s leadership, the SWAC has negotiated long-term contract agreements with ESPN, Russell Athletic, Toyota, Coca-Cola and Nike. The conference basketball tournament has also set records for revenue and total attendance two of the last three years.
The SWAC has made more money, expanded its broadcast profile and significantly built its social media presence under Sharp. Staff turnover has been high and the locale for some of the championships has been questionable, but overall, its a good look by the SWAC member presidents to retain Sharp.
