A team of student engineers from Alabama A&M University recently won the annual NASA university student rocket launch competition in Toney, AL. The competition, which requires teams to design and launch a rocket that can travel the greatest height without exceeding a mile, draws competitors from colleges and universities from around the nation.
“This is unbelievable,” commented Dr. Chance Glenn, Dean of (the AAMU College of Engineering, Technology and Physical Sciences). ”This is a testament to the initiative, knowledge and leadership of our students. They confidently strode onto a national stage and performed brilliantly. The college and the University can be proud of their achievements.”
The AAMU rocket traveled 5,269 feet, just 11 feet short of the mile distance cut-off. The team is advised by Dr. Mohamed Seif, and the competitors were Justin J. Taylor, rocket team leader/president, senior; Julion Bell, senior; Gabriel Odinaka, senior; Landon Cook, senior; Shaquille Dial, junior; Rickey Muirhead, junior; Emmanuel Hunter, junior; and Sebastian Alsop, sophomore.
