Howard Hospital Worker Charged with Selling Patient Info

Written by , Posted in Headlines, Health, Howard University, Washington DC

[mpoverlay]The Washington Times today reports that a Howard University Hospital employee has been charged with selling the personal information of hospital patients for more than a year. The charges are separate from an ongoing investigation of a stolen laptop containing social security numbers and medicare details.

Charging documents filed in federal court in Washington this week say Laurie Napper, a technician in the surgery department, sold patients’ names, addresses, dates of birth and Medicare numbers from August 2010 until December 2011.

The court papers do not say how much money she received or what the buyer did with the information, and a hospital spokesman did not respond to questions. (Washington Times)[/mpoverlay]
