James Ammons Resignation Effective ‘Immediately’

The Florida A&M University Board of Trustees is currently holding an emergency meeting to take the next steps in finding a replacement for retiring president James Ammons, who moments ago informed the board of his intention to resign immediately. Ahead for the board and its national search for a new campus CEO is the ongoing twists and turns with the Robert Champion hazing death scandal and its lawsuits, the very public cherry on the top of mounting criticism against the university for questionable financial audits and oversight issues from media and government alike.

FAMU President James Ammons Resigns

Florida A&M University President James Ammons has resigned today, according to multiple news outlets in the state. Dr. Ammons tendered his resignation to the university’s board of trustees before a scheduled meeting.

Dr. Ammons was a constant at the center of scrutiny surrounding the November 2011 hazing death of former Marching 100 drum major Robert Champion. Dr. Ammons, a FAMU alumnus, assumed the presidency in 2007, and is credited with salvaging the university’s accreditation and public profile through expansion of academic programs.
