Bethune-Cookman’s signing day yielded 15 new Wildcats for the 2012 season, and for good measure, the Wildcats also released the opponents the new members would face this fall. Talented transfers and freshmen will get an early season test for the Wildcats, as the Wildcats open in the MEAC/SWAC Challenge, and with road games against South Carolina State and Miami before returning home to face Tennessee State in the Hall of Fame game.
“I feel good about the class, and one reason is because we got some kids that we targeted and came away with who were all high-caliber kids,” (head coach Brian) Jenkins said. “That’s what I’m excited about. We still have several kids that we’re still working on and we’ve still got some things under our hat that are going to be special.”

Ryan Davis, the MEAC’s standout performer of the year in 2011, continued his post-season award tour, being named the defensive performer of the year by the College Football Performance Awards.
The conference Defensive Player of the Year led the MEAC with 12 sacks (10th in FCS) and finished second in tackles for loss with 21.5. He also finished the year with 65 tackles (40 solo), 17 quarterback hurries, eight forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and a safety.
Davis is heavy favorite to receive an invitation to the 2012 NFL Scouting Combine.

Two out of conference games and five MEAC contests at home highlight Norfolk State’s 2012 football schedule. The MEAC champion Spartans will face Liberty and Ohio University in September, and will close out the regular season with two home games against Savannah State and Morgan State.
For the second straight year, NSU will play 11 straight games without a bye week before having off the final week of the FCS regular season on Nov. 17. The Spartans navigated that stretch well in 2011, finishing 9-3, winning their first-ever MEAC football title and making their initial FCS playoff appearance. (NSUSpartans.com)
