Virginia State University professor Rodney Gaines was recently named the president-elect for the Virginia Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (VAHPERD). The professional association is comprised of more than 1,700 secondary teachers, professors and industry professionals advocating for stronger health and fitness programs in communities and schools across the state.

Dr. Gaines is the second African-American to be named to the position, and will assume the presidency in 2013.
