Alcorn State Professor Clears Name of False Harassment Charges

A lawsuit filed by a former Alcorn State University student against the university and professor Alvin Simpson has been categorically dismissed by a federal court with prejudice. Allegations made by Rudy Chestang in January were not only found to be patently false, according to court documents, but have led to mediation exchanges between Dr. Simpson and outlets originally reporting the story.

In an update to the story, WAPT in Jackson, MS clarified the court filing status.

A document filed in the case shows the university investigated and found there was insufficient evidence to support that claim. The federal court judge dismissed charges individually against Dr. Simpson with prejudice, which means a lawsuit cannot be refiled against him. Simpson said he was vindicated because the suit against him was dismissed, and he denied all the claims.

The university investigation, which preceded the court filing, also discovered no foundation for Chestang’s allegations.
