Talladega Student Recovering After On-Campus Shooting

Written by , Posted in Alabama, Talladega College

Talladega College President Billy Hawkins says that a student shot in the abdomen on campus last night is expected to make a full recovery. The Daily Home today reports that Josh Emory underwent successful surgery this morning, and that guns on campus are becoming more of a problem through community access to the campus’ roadways.

Hawkins said one of his vice presidents had already been consulting with administrators at Alabama, Auburn and Troy about their practices involving road closures on campus.

“We were going to wait until that process was complete before coming before the city to have those discussions, but now I think we need to have those discussions pretty quickly,” he said. “I don’t want parents to think we have an unsafe campus or an unsafe city. I don’t want to see our city become another Birmingham with these guys running rampant with weapons.”
