Dr. Karen W. Bearden has served on governing boards over twenty five years. Four governors of the Commonwealth of Kentucky have tapped her for service since 1987. Her public board experience includes the University of Louisville, Northern Kentucky University and Kentucky State University, where she served as chairperson of the board of regents from 2012-2017.
Additionally, she was a member of the Board of Trustees of Midway College for twelve years. During her governance career, Bearden has served on and chaired numerous committees including academic affairs, personnel and student affairs. She has worked with eight presidents and has been part of four presidential transitions.
As a management consultant for the past twenty five years, she has provided a diverse client base with expertise in the areas of management development, organizational behavior, optimal human resource management and strategic planning. Bearden has worked with governing boards on fiduciary roles and responsibilities, strategies for creating consequential boards, board effectiveness assessments, and president/board chair relationships.
