Federal Lawmakers Call for HBCU Presence in Corporate Diversity Initiative

Bipartisan Historically Black Colleges and Universities Caucus co-chairs Congresswoman Alma Adams (D-NC) and Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) led a letter with Caucus vice-chair Congresswoman Terri Sewell (D-AL) and Republican Study Committee Chairman Congressman Mark Walker (R-NC) to Tim Ryan, U.S. Chairman and Senior Partner of PwC and chair of the steering committee for the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion ( CEO Action), commending the group’s commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the private sector. The letter also offered the Caucus’ assistance in furthering their mission by promoting partnerships between member corporations and HBCUs.

“It’s a proven fact, companies with greater diversity out perform their less diverse counterparts,” said Congresswoman Adams. “CEO Action’s commitment to diversity is good for their bottom line and good for our workforce. I commend Tim Ryan and the other CEOs who have pledged their support for this cause and I look forward to assisting their efforts to grow a pipeline of diverse employees to the business community through increased partnerships with HBCUs.”

“Diversity has long been a hallmark of America, and I strongly support these latest efforts related to CEO Action for Diversity and Inclusion,” said Congressman Byrne. “I know our nation’s HBCUs can play an important role in furthering efforts to increase diversity in corporate America, and I look forward to important partnerships developing between our nation’s business leaders and HBCUs throughout the United States.”
