Former Alabama State Exec Says Historic Lawsuit Spurred Forensic Audit

The now closed state and federal investigation into Alabama State University’s finances was the result of events that started as many as 20 years ago, former ASU leaders said in a Friday press conference.

They said it began in 1981 when the university filed suit against the state of Alabama challenging numerous policies of the state’s colleges and universities, including funding, on the grounds that they were racially discriminatory.
