LISTEN: Miles President George French and Entrepreneur Chuck Faush Discuss HBCU Economic Development

Miles College is at the center of a growing HBCU economic development initiative called ‘The Yard,’ which partners black college campuses, cities and corporations to create skilled professionals and living communities.

Miles President George T. French and The Yard Founder Erskine ‘Chuck’ Faush discuss the initiative, and how it can serve as a blueprint for HBCU communities nationwide.

  1. HBCUs and Economic Development go hand and hand. Since most if not all HBCUs have historically been in distressed communities it is important for those HBCUs to continue to provide the basis for development within their communities. Hats off to Miles College and all the HBCUs that have programs to achieve that goal.

  2. Dr. French has been extremely transformational. Such a dynamic leader and miles college is better for it. CAE was a huge boon for me personally. And the partnership with university of Alabama Birmingham ROTC was as well. I was the only black man and only miles college graduate to commission as an Officer in in the United States Army from UAB in 2012 when i graduated from miles college.

I chose to stay at miles instead of transferring to uab because of all i saw Dr. French looking to achieve.

Keep up the good work sir.

  3. My Amazing President. President French, has been extremely amazing, hardworking, and shows 100% everyday. He’s a wonderful person. Miles College appreciate him! You Rock #GoPrezFrench
