Tarik Cohen rushed for 295 yards and touchdowns of 83, 74 and 73 yards Saturday, and North Carolina A&T used a slew of big plays for a 41-34 win over Alcorn State in the Celebration Bowl at the Georgia Dome.

The Celebration Bowl, matching champions of the two historically black Division I conferences, had four scoring plays in the first quarter cover a combined 315 yards.

Cohen’s 73-yard scoring run with 4:17 left was the game winner, although Alcorn State threatened the Aggies ’til the end. Only when Lenorris Footman’s fourth-and-goal pass from the 9-yard-line sailed over a receiver with nine seconds left was North Carolina A&T (10-2) safe.

  1. Congrats to NCA&T and the MEAC for holding the honor of being HBCU National Champs in football. I am a SWAC guy but the MEAC has proven to be the best HBCU football conference this year. Begs the question why did no SWAC or MEAC schools get in the FCS Playoffs? Really the 2nd and third place team in each conference has better records than half of the teams in the FCS Playoffs. Really NCAA Really!

  2. This don’t mean shit we compete in business and industry but we have to make up a bowl to justify our existence pitifully small mind Jack Ass commissioners…

    1. Re: Cameo,

I disagree with your tone and usage of foul language to voice your displeasure concerning the MEAC or SWAC Athletic Commissioners and their decision making. I am most confident that either commissioner would have been honored to have a team from their respective conference selected in the FCS playoffs.

Keep in mind, HBCUs don’t need validation from anyone except for ourselves and continue to perform at the highest level and represent ourselves professionally is all aspects (i.e., submitted online comments).
