Reports: Former Arkansas Head Coach John L. Smith Headed to Kentucky State

Former University of Louisville football coach John L. Smith reportedly is set to take a new, surprising job in the state. reported, citing unnamed sources, that Smith will be hired as the new coach at NCAA Division II Kentucky State in Frankfort.

Kentucky State athletic director William Head, when reached by telephone Wednesday afternoon, said he had no comment on the report.

  1. This is obviously came up since the success of Alcorn State Head Coach Jay Hopson- a white football coach at an HBCU SWAC School the success he has had. Being from Mississippi. John L. Smith is from Kentucky so why not coach at an HBCU in the state. The problem I have is that there are 138 FBS football programs out there and less than 10% have Black coaches. HBCUs traditionally have had black coaches and not the trend is to hire a white coach. When is the trend for FBS school to hire black coaches going to take place.
