Staffers Blamed for Trump Communication on HBCU Construction Funding Controversy

President Donald Trump professed his ‘unwavering support’ on Sunday for historically black colleges after a statement he attached to a spending document questioning the constitutionality of their federal funding caused an uproar.

In a second statement clarifying the first one, Trump said his commitment to the advancement of Historically Black Colleges and Universities, HBCUs, and their students remains ‘unchanged,’ despite his suggestion Friday that he could cancel federal loan guarantees to the institutions.

Trump’s Friday statement came as a shock to not only the schools, but his own administration.
