Stillman College players and coaches expect to learn Thursday whether the school will continue to field a football team and continue its athletic program in other sports.

Stillman President Peter Millet informed athletic department personnel by text message this week that he would meet with them Thursday to discuss the future of the school’s sports programs, The Tuscaloosa News has learned. He was scheduled to meet with the school’s board of trustees on Wednesday night and has scheduled a press conference for Thursday in the Wynn Building.

Millet and the board “are currently evaluating all programs within the institution, athletic as well as academic, to ensure the primary mission of the school is being followed,” Stillman sports information director Joel Worthington said in a statement. “That mission is to ‘foster academic excellence and to provide high quality educational opportunities for diverse populations with disparate levels of academic preparation.’ No decisions have been made, but the institution will release information as it becomes available.”

  1. I hope they keep the program. It is a shame HBCU just don’t have the level of funding and support in athletics as PWI and we already know the state is not going to help. Separate but equal right? Yeah Right!
