More than 400 members of Houston’s social elite came out in support of Texas Southern University’s biannual For The Sake of Art fundraiser gala and runway show held last week.
Honorary chairperson Tina Knowles-Lawson joined members of the city’s business, media and arts communities to raise more than $300,000 in support of TSU’s University Museum, according to the Houston Chronicle.
The event, which also served as a competition for designers, helped to raise awareness about the museum’s collection of African American art and
“We did something that’s never been done before for the museum,” said (Houston-based philanthropist Merele) Yarborough, who chaired the event. “I hope its story is written on the heart of everyone who attended because what we do at TSU and the museum goes far beyond the walls of this community.
